What's going on at Dulce Refugio

     I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. September has been a busy month and the construction of the school is really coming along. We have finished tiling all of the rooms on the 2nd floor and installing all of the guard rails on the 2nd floor as well.

Marco has been back working with us. He is finishing all of the rooms with yeso (plaster) on the 3rd floor. We should be done the 1st week in October..

He's been teaching me how to 'yeso'. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about construction. Having to fill Duane's shoes is a huge task!

And a special thank you to Miguel, who recently moved here from Queretaro, Mexico. He has been volunteering the last couple of months and has been a great help.

We got 6 new kids this month...

We said goodbye to 2....Yahel and Abigail returned home with their family. We wish them the best!

(Sorry the picture only shows half of their faces but it's the only one I had. This is when we got to meet Vicente Fox, ex Presidente, of Mexico. His organization made a generous donation to the Casa Hogar).

These 4 brothers and sisters have officially been initiated into Dulce Refugio with the head shaving ritual...any trace of lice and goodbye hair.

Thanks to a donation sent by one of our regular volunteers, Fernanda was able to get her chipped tooth fixed. She was smiling a lot once we left the dentist's office.

Fani is back at Dulce Refugio. She returned a couple months ago after spending 11/2 years in the U.S.A. Her English has gotten very good! She is now enrolled in a local university and plans on getting a 4 year degree.

Alejandra (aka Wera) and Pilar have returned to Dulce Refugio, after living off site for a couple of years. They are in charge of las niñas (the girls) and have been helping out with many of the daily needs of the Casa Hogar.

The rainy season is almost over but there still are some days when it really comes down. Luckily, the kids know how to handle it.

And after 6 years we say goodbye (hopefully only temporarily) to our good and faithful employee Juan Loera. He will be working with a pastor friend of the Casa Hogar and helping to build his church. The church is located right down the street from Dulce Refugio so we will still be in touch. Good luck and God bless Juan!
