What's going on at Dulce Refugio

I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. Please remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; I hope you continue to help us out here at Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio. Gracias amigos!

Well Happy New Year to everyone! I hope all of you started off 2018 on the right foot. It was nice to have some time to rest over the holidays but immediately upon my return to Mexico things were as busy as ever. This January brought us MANY new faces and we are excited to serve the LORD by caring for these precious children.

After spending a month at home in San Diego, it was time to return  to the mission field. I got back to Aguascalientes on Jan 24th and was excited to see everybody and meet all of the new faces.

Well, we got 15 new arrivals this month!! We are starting off the new year running! Please pray that we will be able to care for AND keep up with all of them...

Christopher

Luis

Edwin

Christopher, Luis & Edwin all arrived individually. They are good kids. Every day when I show up Christopher asks me for a piece of candy...I usually sneak him one. Luis is one of the older boys and has a great attitude. When he's not at school he wants to help me in the construction. And Edwin loves to play "futbol"/soccer. He is fitting in nicely with the other boys.

Kevin, Irvin, Naomi & Axel (from left to right) are brothers and sister and they came together this month. Kevin and Irvin have lived at Dulce Refugio in the past and it was good to see them again. Also it was nice to meet their siblings Naomi and Axel for the 1st time.

Jorge, Ariana, Mario & Maria  (from left to right) are brothers and sisters. They just arrived on the 30th of January and are still a little shy. I look forward to getting to know them while they're here at the casa hogar.

Jesus & Mayte are brother and sister and they arrived earlier this month. Jesus is having a little trouble adjusting and has been crying a lot. We'll try to cheer him up. And Mayte seems to be enjoying school and having a good time with the other girls.

Daniela & Karen are sisters and they also just arrived at the very end of the month. I haven't yet had much of a chance to get to know them but look forward to doing so over the next couple of months.

We took a trip to "Ciudad de los Niños" to drop off some pizza and food for our pigs. Ciudad de los Niños is the biggest orphanage in Aguascalientes and has lots of land and animals. It was fun walking around and checking out all the sites. There are 2 boys there, Salvador & Manuel, that stayed at Dulce Refugio for a bit in the past. Our boys were happy to see them.

Our garden has been doing so well that we need to expand. I built another garden bed to plant more vegetables. This one is much bigger. It is 5 meters (over 16 feet) so we can grow a lot more stuff to help out on grocery bills.

The lettuce and spinach are ready to eat. The beets and onions are almost ready. Good thing our kids love to eat their vegetables. Haha.

And I hate to end things on such a bad note but please keep our Nadia in your prayers. She has gotten very sick and has been in the hospital for the past couple of weeks. She arrived at the casa hogar in September of 2016 and is such a sweet girl. I hate to see her going through this but I'm grateful that I have gotten to visit her multiple times while she has been in the hospital. Please join us in praying for her to get better soon!
