What's going on at Dulce Refugio

I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. Please remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; I hope you continue to help us out here at Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio. Gracias amigos!

The second half of February flew by. After a month and a half of being away it was good to be back and see everybody again. It's always nice to be home with family but I know that God has called me to be here and there is lots of work to do! I arrived back to Aguascalientes on February 13th.

The kids gave me a warm welcome when I showed up to the orphanage and I was happy to see everybody again. I also got to meet the newest faces at Dulce Refugio. We have 6 new faces staying with us. Their names in order are: Victor, Martha, Vanessa, Adi & Emily (they are sisters), and John.

And I got to reunite with "my son," Rocky. It had been almost 2 months since I had seen our white Labrador and we were both excited to hug it out.

While I was gone our staff member, Pilar, had her baby on Jan 10, 2017. Welcome to this world and to the Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio family Luis Leonel Maya Larios.

Two days after arriving back to Aguascalientes I had to leave again, but only for a few days. I had to make the 10 hour drive, each way, up to the closest border crossing and renew my car permit. 20 hours in a car, only to spend 20 minutes in an office. I wish I didn't have to do it but the Mexican government keeps the $400 US deposit if the car is not out of the country by the required date.

(All that effort for a little sticker but at least I'm here legally)

One of our regular volunteers, Daniela, from Mexico City came to stay with us for 10 days. She has been here many times and decided to spend her vacation helping out at Dulce Refugio. We really appreciate you taking the time to help Daniela. Thanks!

Some missionaries from my home church in San Diego stopped by the orphanage. They wanted to take pictures, meet the kids, and see the work that is going on. They talked about maybe sending a missions team to help out later this year, which would be a HUGE blessing! I would love to collaborate with them for this amazing ministry. Definitely praying for that.

We had a bonfire for the older kids and we discussed with them: biblical relationships (since many are now at the age where this is an extremely important topic) and how to wait for true love, not rush into feelings of infatuation. We had lots of fun and the kids were up until 1 a.m.

(Thanks again to Daniela who provided the food for the event.)

Little Caesars has been supporting the orphanage for many years. All of the their "hot and ready" pizzas that are not sold within the required time limit are set aside for us to pick up. It is a HUGE blessing! In recent months the donations have slowed and/or stopped. But this February we have once again received the regular amounts and it appears that things are back to normal. Praise God for that! And thank you very much Little Caesars!

(Please pray that that they will continue to give. Not only do these donations help with our orphanage but we are able to be a channel of blessing to many other ministries in Aguascalientes and beyond. We share the pizzas with other orphanages, food kitchens, and people in need.)
