What's going on in Aguascalientes

There is a lot going on down here in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I want to keep you all informed with the highlights each month. Thank you to all who pray for and support these ministries. We are able to bless so many people and we couldn't do it without you. To God be all the glory. Gracias amigos!

May got off to a slow start but praise God that I'm healthy and able to get back to the ministry He has entrusted me with. There was a lot of little things to do this month but I was able to check a lot of stuff off my list.

I got really sick at the end of April and it lasted into May. I thought I had a virus because the antibiotics didn't work, but it turned out that it was just a bad throat infection. After a week of being sick, I woke up on a Saturday and was coughing up blood (sorry for the gross details). I was really worried and immediately called a specialist. He gave me stronger meds and within 24 hours I felt much better. Praise God we live in an age with antibiotics!

We celebrated Chevon's 70th birthday on May 7th and we had a small party at her house. We ate cake and played dominos, her favorite game. It was a good time and Chevon enjoyed the company. Things have pretty much remained the same with Chevon this month so there aren't really any updates to share. We are currently trying to find someone to live with Chevon who will be able to help out with her daily activities/needs. Please keep this in your prayers as we need to cut back on the amount of shifts from the nursing agency  we are using to care for Chevon.

I made and installed screens for all of the 2nd story windows at Pastor Tino's house. Pastor Tino is the pastor of the church that I was in charge of building a lil while back. He recently did construction on his house to add a 2nd story. I did the windows for him a couple of months ago and now I finished the job by adding the screens. He plans on using the 1st story of the house as ministry offices and a place to host teams that want to come down and serve. So if anybody is interested in helping out, we have lodging options.

Lots of maintenance this month! I spent a few days at the orphanage fixing a variety of things. There were electrical and plumbing issues. I had to change out multiple light sockets and fix a problem in the solar water heater. The girls' skylight was lifting up from the wind so I had to fasten it down. One door in the girls' dorm fell off so I had fix the door frame and put the door back on. It's amazing how often I have had to fix the doors at the orphanage! In 7 1/2 years of living down here, I still have the same doors in my house and have never had any problems. Yet with 30+ kids running around, they seem to break their doors every couple of months.

I also had to fix the roof and the door at the church that I was in charge of building. The strong winds were lifting up the laminate in the corner, so I fastened it down and it shouldn't be a problem anymore. As for the door, it is so big (9ft tall x 14ft wide) that the weight is pulling on the hinges. Two of the hinges fell off so I had to reweld them. Lots of small jobs this month!

A group of us from church went to play paintball for my friend Jose's bachelor party. I took home many "memories" from that day, haha. All of us had marks on us for the next week, but it was really fun and definitely worth it. I think I received the best shot of the night...right in the neck! Thank God it wasn't a real war!

Jose is a leader in the church and a good friend who has helped me out a lot over the years. He is a painter/artist and whenever I have needed something painted, he has always been there. He is getting married in June in Puerto Vallarta and I will be going for a couple of days and bringing my girls. They will be bridesmaids in the wedding and I will be a groomsman. We are looking forward to it!

One of my girls, Elvira, took her entrance exam to the University Autónoma de Aguascalientes (UAA). It is a difficult college to get into and we won't know if she is accepted until mid June. Elvira is a very good student and she studied very hard for the exam. She plans on studying medicine and wants to specialize in gynecology. I am praying that she will get accepted to her 1st choice for college. Please keep her in your prayers.
