What's going on at Dulce Refugio

I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. Please remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; I hope you continue to help us out here at Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio. Gracias amigos!

So much has changed this past month! June has been very productive in the construction, thanks to all the new help I have had. Also many kids have come and gone. Lots of hellos and lots of goodbyes...that's how life is here at Dulce Refugio.

In the construction...

The window frames on the 2nd floor are finally done. Now we just need to buy and install the glass.

Kyleigh is back! And she's here for 2 months. She also brought a friend, Dalton. He was here for the first time and was able to help out for a week. Thanks a lot to both of them. The project moves along much faster when there are extra hands around. Dalton had a great time and says he definitely plans on coming back. Looking forward to seeing him again!

Kyleigh is in charge of painting. She has pretty much finished painting all of the rooms on the 3rd floor (and that completes all the rooms for the entire school!!) and she also had some of the kids help her seal the roof. The rain season is coming and we had a few leaks so we decided to add another coat of sealer paint.

(And there might have been a small paint fight between the boys and the girls)

We started tiling the 3rd floor. One of the 4 rooms is half way done. I taught Dalton how to tile and he picked it up really quick.

We welcomed 5 new faces to the Casa Hogar. Omar (who is only 2 years old and is now our youngest child), Salvador & Manuel (they are brothers), Mario, and Wendi.

We had to say many goodbyes. 5 kids left this month. Vanessa, John & Marta (they are brother and sisters) returned with their grandma. Gabby and Fatima also had to leave.

Many news channels came to the Casa Hogar to do a story on us for our 15 year anniversary that is coming up in July. They asked Marce, the director, lots of questions and also interviewed me and some of the kids. We all gave God the glory but of course the secular media cut those parts out. Anyways, hopefully the people of Aguascalientes will see the good works taking place and will decide to help us out.

Here is a link to one of the news stories where I was interviewed about Dulce Refugio:

A couple from the church we go to donated 4 baby bunnies for our rabbit cage! I was so happy. They are the cutest little things and the kids love them. They are happy in their new home and getting lots of vegetables to eat. Thank you Luis & Chayo!

I am so sad to report that my pet bunny has died. It happened so fast. I noticed he was sick on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning he passed. That was my 1st pet ever so it was tough for me. I buried him behind the bunny cage at the orphanage and put a cross on the grave. RIP Bunny.

And to end this months blog on a bright note, we had a baby shower for Marta. Marta spent many years in the Casa Hogar when she was younger and returned this month really pregnant. She is expecting at the end of July so hopefully next months update will have pictures of the newest little addition to the Dulce Refugio family.
